Beautiful gourd art by Christine Hogan

by Daria on August 2, 2009

in Sunday Art Exhibit

Christine Hogan was born in rural Minnesota and grew up on a farm in South Dakota. She attended Long Beach City College and Cornell University where she majored in business.

Primarily a self-taught artist, her childhood provided for a natural interest in flora and fauna, and she began to draw while she was quite young. Her abilities have been honed through classes and workshops with noted instructors.

Chris works in china painting, porcelain, lace draping, doll painting, creates beautiful gourd art and paints in oils. Her subject matter is as varied as her media. It has been said that Christine’s art tends towards meticulously detailed renderings of flowers and gourds painted in the style of Navajo art heirloom.

Christine’s awards are numerous and include many First Place, City, Patron, Winsor-Newton and Graumbacher Awards. She is a past president of both San Gabriel Fine Arts Association and the International Cultural and Art Association. Chris presents demonstrations throughout California and Nevada. She also teaches classes at her own studio in Lakewood. Her art works grace a variety of homes and businesses throughout the world.

I love these gourds. especially the one with 8 Flute players wood burned and stained red. I can tell that Chris puts her heart into this; growing and doing all the work. I happen to know Chris and her garden is full of flowers and veggies. Her art work is just as impressive. This is beautiful work and I can feel the passion.

These are extremely lovely pieces. They would be a treasure to anyone who owned them. I particularly love the one with blue stones. She seems like a wonderful, talented lady.

They are absolutely enchanting works of art. The effort and time that have gone into making each one special is incredible. Although I would be delighted to own any one of the above, the Gourd Bowl with the King Palm Seed Frond Couching is my favorite!

These works of art are inspiring. What I find most appealing about these gourd vases and bowls is the fact that the main material came from her own garden (and therefore isn’t hurting the environment). The natural gourds ensure that each piece is truly unique and the level of workmanship is amazing. Beautiful peices!

Mesmerizing! I love the gorgeous masterpieces against the black background. The colors are so well brought out by this contrast. My favourite is the red gourd! It’s so simple yet exquisite.

How interesting. I’ve never seen anything like this. These would be beautiful art pieces with which to decorate your home. Very unique and meaningful. I had no idea you could do something like this, but that’s what art is about. Wonderful!

Všec mi je izvirna kombinacija naravnih materialov in avtorjeva domiselnost pri ustvarjanju vedno novih unikatov. Tudi prava predstavitev (na temni podlagi) doprinese k poudarku na razstavljeno umetnino.

Translation: I like the unique combination of natural materials and the author’s creativity in making always new art pieces. Presentation on dark background also adds to the value of the artwork.
