My name is Iva Krapež and I’m from Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Photography was my companion since my early years.
I still clearly remember the first camera I ever received. It was my 10th birthday and the camera was a Beirette 35 mm. I always had to ask my parents for money to buy black and white film rolls.
Following were memorable and exciting years with color film and my anxiety while waiting for the film to be developed – so I could see what kind of shots I managed to take.
I had the most fun taking pictures every day as a professional photographer for a corporate newspaper.
Photography techniques changed a lot through the years. Digital photography opens the door to everyone who desires to engage their creativity, use their imagination, and boldly turn their dreams into an even better visual image.
I’m interested in taking photos of scenery, even when I have to return to the same spot over and over again – until I catch just the right light or season.
I love macro photo shots in which I always discover some unexpected details.
Fruit still life captures are challenging, because my goal is to present a motif that is well known to everyone from another angle.
Most of all, I enjoy portrait photography which allows me, for just a moment, to capture a human soul.
To the question photographers around the world get asked all the time, “Which is your best photo?” – my answer is, “The one I haven’t taken yet!”

What a photography its really fantastic and a treat to watch these stuffs. Great work.
Something refreshing on this hot First Day of Summer, Father’s Day Sunday…
Love the black backdrop especially for the cherries.
You have different shades of cherries which is normal in the produce section but artists tend to make them all the exact same color. I like the very real look.
And the drops on the pears? Glistening water or meant to be something else?
I love how Iva Krapež contrasts the still life objects with the stark black background. This makes the fruit vibrant and tempting. I really love her work.
Wow, great photography, it makes me want to eat fruits which I rarely found myself eating..well done, nice light work.
I really do enjoy looking at these because it does give you a new and more intimate perspective into the world of fruit. It’s amazing how she arranges them a certain way so we get just a glimpse of something. It makes a person think.
Very, very nice collection and wonderful work.
The collection shows amazing attention to detail. The colors are accurate, profound and with accurate lighting. The texture is apparent and very real to capture the impefections that make nature beautiful.
I absolutely love these! The raspberries were my favorite, they seemed almost translucent against the background. The red currants is another gorgeous one. I thought that the black background was what really made these but the red currants definitely proved me wrong. Very refreshing!
My favorite one is Deluge. Its such a surreal picture. The lighting and everything just makes it amazing.
@ Chloe – Same here, Chloe – I was thinking the same thing when I first discovered Iva’s photos of fruits (that the black background made them), until I found the “Red Currants” and the “Bounty” and the new green apple “Deluge” – which all proved me wrong and at the same time made me realize that this Slovenian photographer’s skills are even more brilliant then I understood at first.
They’re all beautiful, of course — I particularly like the raspberries one — but I just wanted to ask: how was the effect for “Deluge” achieved? Is that water?
These pictures are wonderful. It’s amazing how such simple pictures (the fruit on a black background) can come across so vibrantly. She has captured the freshness of the fruit in these compositions. I think I will go and buy some fresh fruit today.
@ firinne I hope Iva responds to this question herself
Zdravo Iva,
Jaz sem Nika iz Logatca, Darjina sorodnica in ona mi je priporo?ila ogled tvoje razstave na internetu. ?udovito in prelepo, kaj lahko mojstri fotografije naredijo, ?estitam!!
Translation: Hi Iva, I’m Nika from Logatec, Daria’s relative and she also recommended this online exhibit to me. Really beautiful and outstanding what the masters of photography can do these days. Congratulations!!
Wow! Fruit is such a simple, everyday item, but these photographs show how extraordinary each piece can be. Amazing photography.
I am glad to read all those comments. I thank a lot to Daria to invite me.
@Bridget Vogt: The photo was made with hand lamp (to draw with light),in the darkness, exposure is 10 seconds and I wanted to lighten some cherry more then other to make a agitation.
About pear: no drops, only natural pattern of this kind of fruit. Thank you for your accurated visit.
@firinne: Deluge – apple in the agitated water.
These art pieces are beautiful. Especially the raspberries at the top, they look so incredibly real!
Very beautiful art work. My very favorite is “The time of red currant” which is just lovely. The way the currants are placed in the glasses is just stunning. Red currants always remind me of my grandmother from Scandanavia who liked to make a pudding with red currants in the summertime.
The color and the black background on the kiwi looks very dramatic. The fruit looks absolutely succulent.
The contrast between light and dark in these photos is stunning. The closeness and precision of detail is also amazing. I love the rasperries picture and the picture of Palatina. To be able to photograph something as ordinary as a piece of fruit and make it extraordinary with the use of proximity, light, and color is truly a gift. These are not your run-of-the-mill still photographs. The images are full of life, almost leaping off the page into my watering mouth.
I love fruit! I can’t get enough of them to eat. so, If these photos were hanging in my house, I would want them even more! I think I am going to add more fruit to my garden. I think I need to add a cherry tree to go with my peach, lemon, grapfruit, and orange trees. The rasberries are outstanding! I wish I had room to grow them too.
I feel I could reach into the photo and grab the fruit to eat! Great job. You really put your love into your photography.
This is a wonderful new site. I will be back many times to check it out.
The pictures are amazing. You make the food jump off the screen and make you want to try it. The way those raspberries look makes me want to go out and buy some!
The detail on these images in impeccable and the use of such bright colors against the black background makes it really exceptional.
Wow. These pictures make my mouth water. I can almost smell the fruit. Just amazing. I’m almost speechless.
wow! I love your photography – your ART! I especially like the contrast of the fruit on a black background. The fruit looks delicious and the colors are so intense. These images make my mouth water – I love fruit! I wish you great success!
Pozdravljena, tvoje slike so cudovite, prav tako kot tvoja osebnost in karakter. Enkratno Iva, upam, da nas boš še
dolgo, dolgo razveseljevala s svojimi fotografijami. Pri cešnjah
so se mi kar sline pocedile. Njami…., se vidimo..
Translation: Hello, your photos are wonderful, just like your personality and character. Outstanding, Iva, I hope you keep brightening our days for many years to come. Cherries made my mouth water. Yummy… see ya..
Moja prva misel:”Pojej me!” tako slastne so tvoje fotografije. Ker poznam kar nekaj drugih tvojih prekrasih fotografij, me zanima, zakaj jih ne predstaviš? Na primer: obrazi, cvetje in še mnogo drugega. Moram reci, da imaš “globok pogled” v stvari, saj tvoje slike govorijo.
Translation: My first thought: “Eat me!” – so delicious are your photos. Since I know quite a few other wonderful photos of yours I’d like to ask you, why don’t you show those off, too? For instance: portraits, flowers and many more. I have to say that your art is very meaningful because your pictures “speak.”
Translation: As far as my choice of Iva’s “fruit portraits” over all the other photos Iva takes – that was my “fault.” I fully agree with you that her portraits, scenery and other photos are just as exceptional. I chose the fruits because in the two online art galleries, where I’m featuring artists, I haven’t featured anything like that yet – and because Iva’s fruits looked like a perfect refreshment for these hot days of summer.
Perfektno. Cestitam za objavo fotk. Kot sem že nekajkrat napisal na flickr-ju, se mi izredno dopadejo tvoje barve, kontrasti, ostrina in fokus, plus seveda vse ostalo kar naredi fotko.
Še enkrat: Cestitke.
Translation: Perfect. My congratulations for this exhibit. As I said before on Flickr, I admire your colors, contrasts, sharpness and focus, and everything that makes a good photo.
Once again: Congrats.
Lepa hvala za povabilo v galerijo. Z željo še kdaj; tudi jaz se rada napijem iz tvojega keliha. Cestitke!
Translation: Thank you very much for inviting me to this art exhibit – would love to come again. I also enjoy drinking-in from the beauty of your chalice. Congratulations!
Odlicno! Trenutek svetlobe, živost barv, svežina in ostrina slike je obdelana do potankosti. Krasno! Cudovito!
Translation: Excellent! The moment of light, brightness of colors, freshness and the photo sharpness perfection. Beautiful! Wonderful!
These pictures show great detail and they sure make my mouth water!
Nice shots! maybe you should more practice more shot on things that have a good background, not that you just have pics with the black background
I found this post to be a refreshing end to a brutally hot day in my part of the world. Deluge, the Hungarian grapes, is my favorite. I’ve never seen grapes like that. Are they sweet, or are they tart? In any case, I want them! They look delicious.
The currants are jewel-like and a very well composed shot. You have a good eye for simple, yet elegant photographic compositions.
Simply beautiful and elegant! (Not to mention refreshing) Thank you for sharing.
What excellent photography of various fruits–You want to have them all to eat.
You could not have picked a better day for your email. I golfed today in 89 degree temperature….came home showered and checked my emails. The pictures were soooooo refreshing and tasty. They almost looked 3D….great job.
I had a hunch that everyone could use something refreshing these days – when making my choices for this past Sunday Art Exhibit. And today I keep reading online posts from people, complaining about high temperatures, humidity, storms, overflowing polls and mosquitoes all day long…
Thanks for stopping by, Gloria!!
Its not about praising the wonderful photography of this born artist but paying a tribute to a passionate person who is always successful to represent the mood and atmosphere of time and space just exactly as it was at the time of shooting. One thing whcih I must pen down is her ability to capture the person in her portraits. Its exceptional! My this verdict for her is may be based upon my own interest but still it is admitted by a lot many other portrait photographers.
Its kind of a pleasently exceptional experience about your “new everyday” -:), Iva.
Regards.
I can’t help my self. I have to keep coming back to look at these wonderful photos! It is hard to pick a favorite.
Another great talent shown here in photography. I can barely take a good picture without chopping off someone’s head or something. Great pictures, Sandy
these fruits really look juicy, healthy and full of vitamins…delicious…
Iva.
Ne samo tokrat, vedno sledim vaši strani in obcudujem predstavljeno!
Cestitam, cestitam in še enkrat cestitam .
Majda
Translation: Iva, not only this time – I always follow your pages and admire your work!
Congratulations, congratulations and once again congratulations.
These portraits are great… the contrasting backdrop adds to the drama of each portrait and the use of water droplets makes the fruit look fresh and alive in each picture. Very good work, and it makes me immediately hungry for something healthy!
These photos are breathtakingly beautiful! The concepts are interesting: they act upon your senses by putting “sharp” contrasts. Exceptional way to show that mundane things as fruits can be made unique. Keep up the good work!
ps. The Hungarian grapes really caught my attention, as I eat a lot of them here, in Hungary
I love how you can see every detail of the fruit, from the drops of water on the grapes to the wrinkles in the orange. The colors are so vibrant and wonderful, these would look great hanging in my kitchen.
These works are AMAZING!!! I dont know how she does this.
I’m an artist and I could never do this type of realisum. Just
breath taking really.
Wow, really creative composition for fruit still life, and your lighting technique is flawless. Really glad I found this post, and I think you’ve definitely achieved displaying a motif throughout.
Incredible pictures! My mouth is still watering! I wanted to just reach through the screen and grab breakfast. You have given me something to strive for, and I thank you for the opportunity to view your beautiful work!
Beautiful photos. I love the contrasted colors of the fruit and background. The sprayed water and ice gives the fruit a luminosity that conveys life, health and vitality. These everyday kitchen denizens glow from the inside out. These photos treat the fruit as individuals getting portraits taken. I love that the focal point of the photos are off center. This gives the pictures interest.
Iva, tvoje slike so res super, cudovite, edinstvene,… Velikokrat si ji ogledam, a zaenkrat brez komentarja. cutim pa, da ti moram povedati, da resnicno govorijo same zase! Vzbudijo ti vse cute! So jasne, natancne, ostre, odlocne! Tako kot ti! Želim ti še veliko uspehov s tvojim hobijem!
Translation: Iva, your pictures are really great, unique, beautifull,… I take a look at them several times, but for now without commentary. Now I am feeling, that I must give away to you, that your pictures speak alone! They evoke all emotions. They are clear, sharp, accurate, determined, assertive! Such as you!I wish you still many successes with your hobby!
