Happy Father’s Day!

Did you know that this is a celebration on the 3rd Sunday in June in over 52 countries?

It is believed to have started in 1908 in West Virginia, USA. Father’s Day was only made a federal (official) holiday in the US when President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation in 1966. And now, let’s go on to see some art celebrating fathers.

What a great selection of father-themed art! It would be hard to chose just one for a favorite…but I think the photo of the big and little feet touch me the most, as a photographer myself. It shows the power and the helplessness in the relationship, yet also shows that the father is protecting and caring for the baby…very sweet!

I love the picture called fatherhood. It brings me right back to when I was little and my father would take me into the ocean. As long as he was holding my hand, I wasn’t afraid. All of the photos are wonderful and so expressive. I looked at them several times and will probably come back again.

I really loved this collection. There was a tie for my favorite, the photo of the feet of the father and son by RedTheAngryBetaFish and the sleeping father and son by whitfiddy. The feet photo reminds me of a hands photo we have of our daughter with her daddy. And I have numerous photos of our children sleeping with daddy. There’s just something about a big strong man cuddling his little one as both sleep that makes my heart melt.

Very nice collection.

@Deb: you described that one really well, and I picked it for thee reasons you mentioned. It’s a very symbolic capture of fatherhood. :)

@Pratt: Thank you! I really enjoy the variety of cultures and ethneticities this world has to offer, and I try to include that in my work.

@georgette: :D as soon as I saw that photo I knew I was going to include it. What’s life without a little humor?

@Cheryl: thank you! I’m so glad you found something here that inspires emotion and good memories. That’s what makes art special. I hope you come back often. :)

@Karen: the sleeping father and son photo is also one of my favorites from this collection. The simplicity and joy of it makes me smile. Those are the moments that make the difficult job of parenting worth everything.

These are great! They all evoke strong but different emotions. My two favourites bring about different feelings: The two feet bring about thoughts of tenderness while the father swinging his daughter around makes me think of all the good times and my own childhood. Thanks for sharing.

A wonderful collection. The one by d1n3 reminds me of how happy my daughter was as a baby. All of them bring back memories of being a father and of my departed father.

What a touching collection to view on Fathers Day. I loved them all but my favorite has got to be the last. There is something about seeing a child sleeping with their father that brings out a sense of security and well being.

I absolutely love the big feet little feet portrait. I think every single parent would have a picture similar of their infants. Times goes quickly and those precious little moments of comparison are gone.
What a tribute to the birth.

These pictures are so adorable. I absolutely love the one of the father’s feet with his kids feet and the pouty face daddy with his son. The one on the beach is so cute too. Ok, I really like them all!!

I really like the artwork of RedTheAngryBetaFish. It really portrays how the father protect his child and much he love his child. For all the Dad’s, Happy Fathers Day. For all the son’s and daughters, love your father with all your heart and love him as you love your mother.

What a touching collection. I enjoy the multicultural diversity of the pieces–dad’s from every culture loving their children. The emotion captured in the works is amazing–but it reminds us that regardless of the mood a father’s love is unquestionable. The dimension and artistic value of “Father and Daughter” is clear; the way in which the artist has captured the subjects joy as a component of the environment is clear and of course as many have commented, the Father and Son foot photo is precious.
