Today we’ll take another look at food and all the different ways it is prepared, either for aesthetics or for the sole purpose of art-making. All the foods are edible and most are prepared by a different culinary artist.

This post presents dinner foods and main dishes. Everyone (almost) loves food, so lets take a look at these delicacies!

This is the second post in the Food Art series. You can find the first one about Desserts here.

Heart Sushi by Ziralma
“Heart Sushi” by Ziralma
Artist Comment: Just some sushi I made for special occasions. Had to make like 5 of these.
I have no idea how you would go about making these, and though I personally don’t like sushi I think the presentation makes all the difference.

It's All Presentation by sake-bento
“It’s All Presentation” by sake-bento
Artist Comment: I made some hamburger helper lasagna this morning (even chefs like me need to cheap it up sometimes). But I decided I wanted to show it off in a cuter way, so I put it in a teacup. And hey, since I’m doing things cutely, might as well make the whole presentation cute.

-Lasagna
-Garlic bread
-Grapes and blueberries
-Spinach and egg salad with sweet vidalia onion dressing

The egg shell holds the salad dressing. Cool, ne?

Vietnamese Dish: Congee by SilverPassion
“Vietnamese Dish: Congee” by SilverPassion
Artist Comment: Congee, originally from the Chinese was adapted by the Vietnamese, is also known as rice soup. Pork, a delicacy of Vietnam is the main focus of this pictured dish, Pork Congee. Like the buffulo used by the Native Indians, every part of the pig that is edible is used. I won’t list them because it might not sound really good lol. Also seen in the pick is chicken, used to make the broth.
Enjoy.

Different cultures, different tastes. :)

Miso Ramen by ThaliatheTiger
“Miso Ramen” by ThaliatheTiger
Artist Comment: Miso Ramen with bamboo shoots, pork cutlets, and green onion. We just finished eating it for dinner, and I’d say that it was a success. I’m not the best cook ever, but there are a lot of things that I want to be able to make, and this is one to add to the list.

Modern Burger by OminousSeed
“Modern Burger” by OminousSeed
Artist Comment: This is the first of a new food series.
The classic Veggie burger with cheese, accompanied by roasted potatoes with sour creme and chives and a mango salad topped with crumbled veggie cheese and a fresh citrus dressing.

Shrimp Whale by sake-bento
“Shrimp Whale” by sake-bento
Artist Comment: I made a whale out of a shrimp. Made with a very large shrimp, sushi rice, corn, and fresh mint grown in our very own backyard. Those large leaves under the whale are also mint (the leaves get pretty huge when you let it grow).

Bratkartoffeln by pica-ae
“Bratkartoffeln” by pica-ae
Artist Comment: Traditional German Fried Potatoes with Turkey and Cherry Tomaotes made with: Potatoes, Onions, Bacon & Parsley, added: Turkey and Cherry Tomaotes for a complete Meal
* i cooked the potatoes the day before
* fried onions and bacon first, then the potatoes
* left the potatoes alone in the pan, they need to fry slowly and it was delicious.
It’s not a very light meal, you know but it’s one of the most delicious and simplest to make, at the same time it’s a lot you can mess up on this one, too. It is said, that a Cook is only as good as his Bratkartoffeln! I liked mine… :D And here in Germany everybody would tell you, that the ones their mom made are always the best. It’s true.

..

I hope you enjoyed this little presentation. Which was your favorite?

I can’t help myself but admire the originality and creativity of all the food artists above – and I couldn’t decide on only one favorite…

O, my watering mouth! I’ll have one of each please. Clever, creative, and so, so appetizing. What’s more, these are not the usual food-as-art displays. Quite a few of them emphasize presentation of a humble food (Hamburger helper, fried potatoes) in a way to enhance its appeal, rather than attempting to create a piece of visual art with edible ingredients (although the heart sushi and the whale are equally examples of the latter).

I love it when food is placed in an artistic way! I wish I could be that creative when preparing dishes. I think hearts on food is always cute. The Shrimp Whale made me laugh out loud, it was cute. I also found it intriguing how the egg shells were used for the dressing! I think that was really nifty because most people associate egg shells as things that should just be thrown away
