If you’ve ever eaten decoratively prepared food before you might have considered it art. And since you’re here for the art, and you probably enjoy food, I decided to combine the two to make a series of food art posts.
To begin with here are some lovely desserts created by culinary artists. But you may want to make sure you’re not hungry before you begin this adventure or you will end up cleaning drool off your keyboard.

“Stu the Koi” cake by peapodlucy
A very complex and intriguing wedding cake. If it were mine I don’t think I could bring myself to cut it.

“Disappearing Cupcakes” by DarkMindsEye
Artist Comment: Cupcakes covered in orange-flavored fondant. They’re supposed to be for everyone to eat while we’re moving tomorrow, but they’re half gone and I only finished making them two hours ago.

“Princess Castle Cake” by pinkshoegirl
Artist Comment: Two-tier marble cake with oreo cream filling and buttercream coat. The plastic pieces are from Wilton’s romantic castle set – decorated with fondant, royal icing and pearl dust. It made one little girl a very happy camper and the look on her face was well worth the 15+ hours this took me!

How pretty is this?!

“Champagne and Strawberries 200″ by greensprout
Artist Comment: This is the dessert I made yesterday for of course, Valentines day for the restaurant Red Ginger of Traverse City. It’s a champagne mousse, with dark chocolate lace and heart, strawberry dust, sauce, and white chocolate hearts.

“Scarface the Holiday Romantic” by themie
Artist Comment: This was my final project for the Wilton Course III Fondant and Tiered Cakes class. I’ve worked on this every single night for four nights straight, and it was both the biggest disaster and hugest success I’ve yet to have. Heidi (my instructor) was awesome helpful in figuring out how to get the bouquet in place when I’d given up on it. Being my first tiered cake, I didn’t know the dowels were supposed to go THROUGH the cake board, but now I know. First carved cake, too!
Through a series of unfortunate events (most of which took place while trying to set the dried gumpaste roses in place), his little not dry face became horrendously scratched, and thus, he came to be known as Scarface The Holiday Romantic.

“Red Mad Hatter” by Heidilu22
From what I can gather from the comments this creation is a vanilla and raspberry cake that weighed about about 90 pounds. I hope no one dropped it.

“Nid d’abeille And Bonbons” by Sliceofcake
Artist Comment: Nid d’abeille (Honey and Fruit Dacquoise).
2 Layers of dacquoise sandwiched with honey chiboust cream and a strawberry coulis disc. Decorated with honey almond coated dacquoise, marzipan bee with sliced almond wings and Earl Grey tea Ganache molded bonbons. This was the whole cake and chocolate bonbons component of my final exam at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa. Recipe Link

If I didn’t have a piece of cake a little while ago, I’d be in serious trouble after looking at all these delightful and delicious eatable masterpieces…
Wow, all of these look absolutely amazing and creative. My favorite would have to be the one on top named “Stu The Koi”. I like it’s fairy tale look that it contains. Nid d’abeille And Bonbons looks very tasty as well. All in all, great job with this post! It really shows off some great art and food.
Wow, those are beautiful creations! Did you make all of those? The cupcakes are my favorite. My kids would love those. I also love the Whimsical Wedding Cake.
Thank you! Actually, each dessert was made by a different artist (none by me). You can find out more about every artist and see more of their work by clicking on their name at the bottom of each photo.
These works are awesome (in the literal sense: they evoke awe). They are creative, elegant or whimsical, and harmonious. As I scrolled through them, I began to think about how they divide more or less into two categories; those that set my mouth watering and those that I couldn’t bear to eat. The former are edible art, and the latter are art that happens to be made of edible ingredients but, as per the comment on the koi cake, “I couldn’t bring myself to cut it.”
I wonder what the eventual fate of each of these masterpieces was.
After reading this post I started drooling all over my keyboard… Good job!
Now I’m hungry…
Wow! These cakes are absolutely amazing! They look way to good to eat! My favorites were the Bugz, and the Red Mad Hatter. I liked them all-none were disappointing in my eyes.
Amazing creations! can’t believe that these should be eaten. I’d probably stare at them for hours instead of eating or cutting them! This is food for the stomach and food for the soul. Great pics. And your descriptions are soooooooo yummy.
I am in awe. I would not be able to cut them up to eat. However, Should someone else….
Very nice display!
These are delectable and all so beautifully done. The most I ever did was to make icing roses and they took me hours. I admire anyone who can craft such masterpieces. I did take your advice and ate first. I saved my keyboard that way!
What a talented person you are. I sure wish I could sample some of these great looking deserts!
Just love the “Champagne and Strawberries 200″. It is so elegant yet whimisical….and looks oh so yummy. It is true, we do eat with our eyes first!!!! Its all an art!
very talented!! it is shame it to cut for eat. They look so good, absolutely amazing and creative. My favorite is Paisley Cake, it looks so hard to make.
Authoritative point of view, it is curious ..
