It has been raining here for the past 3 days almost continuously. All the rain has kept everyone in the neighborhood inside. I’ve spent a lot of my time sleeping (why does rain make people so sleepy?) However waking up to rain has made me stop and appreciate how much it changes and renews the world around us.
.
We won’t water our lawn here in Florida. While we do keep some flower pots and other plants watered the entire lawn has always had to fend for itself. So when we go for long periods of time without rain the lawn simply stops growing and very slowly begins to lose its green color. But as soon as the rain hits, it simply explodes back into a vibrant green. The trees are exactly the same way.
.
So when the rain does hit us here the world transforms in a matter of hours from a pale humid green to a vibrant green full of life. Plus for a little bit it keeps all the bugs out of our airspace. Which is always a relief. Unfortunately our dog has a permanent fear of the rain which can be problematic. But you know what they say “Friendship is golden.”

This color is exactly the color our plants turn after a good long rainstorm. Unfortunately Florida has more thunderstorms than any other part of the united states. And it shows. We lost power several times and whenever we get a bad storm like we have been I always worry about whether I should unplug the electronics.

I enjoyed this post – and images, especially the one of the grass after the rain. It feels good to see how even things that annoy us sometimes can do so much good – and changes for the better in our lives…
