Rare and unusual chickens

I came across a photo of a funny chicken. That’s how I decided to put together a photo gallery of rare and unusual chickens. Oh, and funny ones…

Polish chickens actually originate from Netherlands. They were originally bred for egg laying but recently they are mostly ornamental or show chickens, well known for their full crest of feathers, growing out of one knob on the skull of the chicken.

Sometimes a Polish chicken can get irritated because their vision gets impaired – by feathers.

And some other kind of chicken, not Polish (below). This one almost looks furry to me… lol… and very royal at the same time.

Shamo stag – At 7 months old. This guy is nearly 26 inches tall, hopefully going to reach 30 inches or more at adulthood.

Shamos are originally a cockfighting breed, originating in Japan. They are extremely intelligent, hardy, and very rare. They’re very chicken-aggressive but extremely loyal and friendly towards people.

This “stag” (young rooster) is named Godzilla and roams freely around our yard. He is a very good outdoor pet / lawn ornament.

Araucana chickens are most famous for laying blue eggs, for being rumpless (having no tail) – and having ear tufts.
